  • SheSays Chicago: Remaking Me

Reinvention is a scary thing, especially when it comes to your career. But so many women want or need to reinvent their career path for any number of reasons. Maybe you took time off to raise a family, and need to get back into office life; maybe an opportunity that was supposed to get your foot in the door isn't taking you where you'd hoped; maybe you've just stopped enjoying your chosen field; or quite frankly you're just looking to take the next step up at your company.

Whatever the reason, you're not alone.

Join SheSays for an evening of reinvention at Salt Communications. Hear from three ladies whose stories of reentering, or straight up changing, their careers will inspire and guide you in your own journey. Enjoy drinks and sweets while meeting other women looking for change.

    SPEAKERS:

Alma Klein: Creative Director, Arc Worldwide

Alma began her career as a copywriter in 2000, spending 8 years at OgilvyAction before moving to Arc Worldwide's P&G account in 2008. She's juggled the demands of agency life with raising two daughters, now 8 and 6, skating with Derby Lite, and volunteering in her kids' schools and at her synagogue. Alma was among the first mom bloggers, and 7 years later she is still writing at MarketingMommy.net and contributing to Chicago Parent.

    Follow Alma on Twitter @MarketingMommy

Jillian Dorrestein: Pastry Chef, Très Jolie Patisserie

After 8 years of agency life as a copywriter, Jillian witnessed a transition away from thoughtful creative with a purpose, towards need-it-now, make-it-work "creative" that lacked personality. Clients no longer had budgets or time to spend on long-term campaigns. Instead, they needed temporary solutions to today's problems. So, she would spend her nights in the kitchen, dazzling friends and family with her culinary creativity, and delighting in their reactions. It made her happy. And decided it was time to try the sweet life full-time. So she took a leap...

Heather Anderson: Graphic Designer, Lookingglass Theatre

Heather started her career in Art Education, building a sculpture program for a high school and then made the change to become a graphic designer in 2007. Work has ranged from promoting film festivals on climate change, understanding the hearts of characters in scripts, in order to develop accurate but unique art direction and creating identities for theater productions (also called title treatments).
